About the group:
Sambhal,
in Uttar Pradesh, India is famous for bone and horn handicrafts.
Both horn and bone have been used since the earliest times
in the manufacture of small items such as beakers, jugs, caskets
and snuff boxes, with bone often cut into strips and engraved
to provide decorative edging, or turned and carved for feet
on boxes and mirrors. The inherent grain and colour variations
in bone enable the craftsperson to exploit his creative instinct
to a distinct advantage. Bone, though hard, becomes pliable
when heated and oiled. Finely crafted handicrafts like bracelets,
bangles, necklaces, coaster plates, etc. are made out of bone
and horn by the artisans. The attractive goods generated by
these artisans are in great demand in many countries.
CFM Market Linkages is promoting a local
entrepreneur Amit Kumar, who works with 7 skilled artisans
in Sambhal. CFM Market Linkages provides design inputs which
are converted into final products by the artisans.
